We remember Jesus as he came over the Mt. of Olives riding on a donkey (not a war-horse as a military liberator would) and we join-in with the praise, knowing that it would turn to curses and abuse and betrayal. Welcome to Holy Week.

We give thanks for Fathers today and look to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. May God bring healing to those who need healing. We also recognise the National Indigenous Peoples Day in the Anglican Church of Canada and we name our "Goliaths", believing that in faith and overcoming the fear, we can move forward to reconciliation in this land between the settler people and First Nations, Inuit and Metis.
Quietly accept the message planted in your hearts; it can bring you salvation. James 1:21
Welcome back to the return of in-person service!
Jesus said, "The ruler of this world shall now be cast out; and when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw all people to myself." John 12:31-32
Hopefully this will be the last Sunday of lock-down (no in-person worship) of the Covid-19 Pandemic! Looking forward to seeing as many as possible next Sunday, June 13, at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.
Jesus said, "For everything that is hidden will eventually be brought into the open, and every secret will be brought to light." Mark 4:22
Is there more than an analogy of water/steam/ice when contemplating the Divine Mystery of three-in-oneness?
Today is also the first Sunday together since the news of the mass grave found at the former site of the Kamloops Residential School with the remains of at least 215 children. Our prayers are with all their relations. We contemplate the devastation of the treatment of children on a day when the Scrpiture readings remind us that we are adopted children of God and that the Holy Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are part of the family. The thought of these Dear Ones, cut off from their families of origin, provoke great sadness and grief.
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful; and kindle in us the fire of your love.

This is the last Sunday in Easter before The Ascension. The Ascension is when Jesus physically left this earth and returned "to the right hand of God". It completes his mission objective - a very important Holy Day in the life of the Church. What can we learn from Ascension Day?

Morning Prayer
Thanks to Len Reimer, Lori Riel and Ebey Masillamanee, along with Laura Pauloski, the choir and the production team for this offering of worship in Jesus' name.
Christ our Passover has been sacrificed for us, therefore let us keep the feast!
Christ's death and resurrection were the fulfillment of prophecies concerning the Messiah. His disciples did 'clue-in' to what Jesus had been telling them until after that first Easter when he appeared to them and to many others. The Ascension is what completes Jesus' ministry on earth - he still has things to teach his followers! Are you one of those who would be taught by Jesus? Follow this link and see what you think.
Jesus came to redeem humankind and all of Creation - he did this through the Cross. It was his focus and Holy Week has been building to this moment. Come journey with us as we follow Jesus through the Stations of the Cross.
Read Isaiah 53 to better understand the Messiah, "We all like sheep have gone astray. Each has gone to his or her own way, and the Lord has laid upon him [Messiah Jesus] the iniquity of us all.

Journey with Jesus through Holy Week
Talk about unexpected!
Lori Riel shares a reflection on 1 Kings 19 depicting both in text and in an image by Sieger Koder, an encounter that Elijah had with God - at a time when everything was upside-down, there there threats all around and he was exhausted. Sound familiar?
When we are led through unknown territory, or through difficult times, trusting is critical to following. We experience Jesus trusting God as he walked the way of obedience through Holy Week.
With The Liturgy of the Palms and Procession with Choir Anthem.
This Sunday we reflect on Jesus' entry into Jerusalem riding on a donkey with shouts of "Hosannah!" (which means 'save now'). The popular perception was that Messiah would throw off Roman rule and reign in power. His arrival on a donkey did not fit the popular expectation. What do you expect from Jesus? This is called Passion Sunday since the road from Ashes to Easter leads through profound suffering and death.
"Anyone who serves me must follow me," says the Lord, "and where I am, there shall my servant be also." John 12:26

Epiphany is the 'Green Season' the season of growth
God is merciful and gives us 'second chances' - this is grace. The Good Shepherd leading us to green pastures, and sometimes we choose junk! Is there a part of your life that is crying for a 'reboot'?
The photo on left is from the service of Ordination of The Rt. Rev. John Stephens as Coadjutor Bishop of the Diocese of New Westminster. As such, he will serve alongside Archbishop Melissa Skelton until February 28, 2021 when Archbishop Melissa will retire.
"Just as Jesus was comong up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: 'You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.'" (Mark 1: 10,11)
If Jesus was without sin, why did he submit to John's "baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins"? (Matthew 3:15 records the exchange between John the Baptist and Jesus a bit differently than Mark. He puts it this way, [John had protested to baptizing Jesus saying, 'You should baptize me, not I you."] And Jesus responded, "Let it be so now' it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness." Then John consented.)

O Come! Let us Adore Him!
Although the Christmas Pageant was part of this service, it is available through a private link and not available here.
The watchword is Love!
Although this was also "Pageant Sunday" when the Christmas Pageant was shown, it is not included here. Please join us Christmas eve at 6:45 p.m. via Zoom to see the Pageant and to join us for a Candlelight Service of Worship, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
We have edited-out the Christmas Pageant, and as a result, there is a 4 minute, 24 second gap which you will have to 'forward arrow' through. The gap begins at 19:10 and ends at 23:34 with the beginning of the Creed. the Pageant also took the place of Gospel and sermon.

Working for peace with justice means moving mountains, filling-in valleys - on a scale that is way beyond human effort. So we ponder the Prophet Isaiah, who 'forth-tells' of a time when the people of God will be re-created. The Gospel writer Mark, picks up the words of Isaiah and applies them to another prophet, John the Baptist, the herald of the Messiah. Know God? Know peace. No God? No peace. Consider these words...
We have had an Advent Wreath since before our children were born. It graces our table and we have remade the wreath itself a couple of times. Our children took turns reading and lighting the candles. Now it is just Joanne and I.
The teaching today includes a video from The Bible Project www.thebibleproject.com - a word study on the Hebrew words used for 'hope'. How does hope differ from optimism? Have a look and consider this!

In-person Worship
We are currently in Phase ll and await word from our Archbishop Melissa Skelton when we can move to "Phase lll" when we can celebrate Holy Communion. We will keep you up-to-date through this website and you can call the church office, M-Th, 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at 604-594-8822.
We are BACK!
Simple things, like greeting one another on Sunday morning at Church and being able to pray together. Like having flowers on the Altar. We are slowly coming back together in a safe and orderly manner with a limit of 50 people. It is so strange to listen to the hymns and songs being sung (pre-recorded) and still not be able to sing!
Thanks to the Bartyuk family for organizing and reading the Scripture this morning!
The full service recording is now ready.
Happy 60th Birthday to St. Cuthbert Church! - Praise God!
Beth has designed a button-blanket (style) wall hanging for the church (see detail in photo) which is patterened after St. Cuthbert's Cross. You can learn more about St. Cuthbert's Cross by visiting the website of Durham Cathedral, the home of The Crypt of St. Cuthbert https://www.durhamcathedral.co.uk/heritage/collections/st-cuthbert-treasures.
Find also our recorded service of the first time we have worshipped in-person (in-the-flesh) for 13 weeks. We are planning to layer a Zoom element to our on-line service and there will be more information on this later.
Watch this space also for a slide show of our St. Cuthbert's history.
Come Holy Spirit and renew the face of the earth!
Something new this week. You have the option of viewing the entire service (about 50 minutes) or the readings and sermon (about 20 minutes).
Even though our doors are pesently closed, our hearts are open to the life-giving Holy Trinity. We look forward to the very real possibility of opening our doors to in-person worship. Learn more through clicking on the link.
Come Holy Spirit, our souls inspire!
Talk about diversity! The day of Pentecost was a riot of colour and sounds and praises. Read about it yourself in the Bible - Acts chapter 2. This is exactly what this offering of worship at St. Cuthbert's is. We are glad that you can join us.
Let us Keep the Feast of Easter!
Watch for Barney! For young and old - Barney is our "Continuity Officer" and will show up 4 times throughout the service, in four different places. Send Pastor Paul an email and let me know where and when you spy Barney, named Barnabas, "the son of encouragment" pastor@stcuthbert.ca Barney is rocking the lockdown 'up-do'.
Let us Keep the Feast!
We also offer a tribute to Mothers. Happy Mother's Day!
Do you need shelter in these trying times? Ever forget what day it is or whether you should be at work or emptying the dishwasher at home? You have come to the right place! Jesus offers to shepherd us, protect us and lead us.
Here are a couple of reflections from Holy Week by Pastor Paul that were never posted due to technical difficulties.
"The Lord's Supper" (8 minutes) and "Jesus Washing the Disciples' Feet" (11 minutes). These were both intended for Maundy Thursday.
