Three Positions Currently Available: Application Deadline 18 August 2025

We have three postions currently open for those who are called, competent, and whose character fits with our culture at St. Cuthbert's.

Youth Leader

Purpose: The Youth Leader is responsible for providing an environment and opportunities for youth to grow in their relationship with God through Jesus Christ. This responsibility involves leading, coordinating, integrating and overseeing ministries related to youth and young adults (YOUTH are defined as 12-18 years or age or Grade 7-12; YOUNG ADULTS are defined as single adults 19-25 years).  Inherent in this responsibility is developing and maintaining a healthy relationship and partnership with the parents of our youth  

Accountability: The Youth Leader is responsible to the Rector and indirectly to the Parish Council.

Summary of Position: We are looking for someone with a strong Chrisitan faith who enjoys working with youth with enthusiasm, humour and a sense of fun.  Initiative and motivational/organizational skills for involving youth are required in planning fun and appropriate group activities. Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills with the youth and their families is needed.

Goals: 

  • Build strong, respectful relationships with the youth and their families.  Help them to deepen their Christian faith and understanding.
  • Build community in person and with social media
  • Develop communication channels with parents of the youth, other youth leaders in the Diocese and our parish community.
  • Develop sustainable programming for youth with enthusiasm, promoting a variety of opportunities to develop leadership skills, exploring and discovering their gifts and talents, enhancing their Christian faith and becoming involved with the Parish community.
  • Recruit adult volunteers as needed to assist/attend events

Requirements:

  • Be ready to attend St. Cuthbert sponsored training in new curriculum as and when needed
  • Join the CFYM Committee and collaborate with them in giving their report
  • Attend the monthly parish council meetings and produce a separate report from the CFYM Committee report
  • Take an active role in planning and leading at least one mission camp for youths and young adults
  • Be responsible for updating the Parish website with up-to-date information on Youth formation material
  • Skilled at social media and electronic communications including Instagram, Facebook, Zoom, Texting, and others.
  • It is the policy of the Diocese of New Westminster that everyone who comes into contact with vulnerable persons be screened. The goal is a safe environment in parishes, in diocesan ministries, in activities for children, seniors, the physically, emotionally, and/or spiritually vulnerable persons. Submission of a current Police Record check with Vulnerable Sector Check, take “Safe Church” courses as required, “Dismantling Racism” training and Basic First Aid/CPR training.
  • Provide monthly updates of activities and youth attendance to the Rector and Parish Council
  • Provide a yearly report to Vestry

Compensation and required hours:

  • This is a part time position of 10 hours per week
  • The hourly rate is $28 per hour

Sunday Nursery Helpers x2

(There are 2 positions as Nursery Helpers)

Ministry Purpose: To provide safe, secure, nurturing, clean and efficient care to our children aged 6 weeks to 3 years during church services and for 15 minutes after church services. We hope this will enable parents of young children to participate more fully in the church service and fellowship after the service and encourage them to stay at St. Cuthbert's.

Helper's Responsibilities

  • Responsible for age-appropriate care which includes: feeding, changing diapers, maintaining a safe environment, putting children down for naps, holding, sitting with, and cheerfully interacting with children through games, stories, crafts and play.
  • Polite, friendly and courteous to all children, parents, and volunteers. Arrive at 9:45 to welcome the children
  • Greet each child and parent with a confident smile
  • Ensure a registration form is completed for every child dropped off. Sign in each child
  • Stay until all children are secured with a responsible adult named on the child's registration form. Do not release a child to another child/sibling
  • Straighten room and clean up before leaving.
  • Abide by the nursery policies and classroom expectations
  • If unable to work on your scheduled day, please inform the Children, Youth & Family Committee who will find a certified parishioner to replace you
  • Potty-time rules - two workers should be present when changing diapers or taking children to the washroom; encourage toddlers to do as much for themselves as they are capable of (undressing, wiping, flushing, etc.)
  • Work in a team of 2 people at all times.
  • Only screened workers and parents of the children may be in the Nursery from 9:45 - 12:00.
  • Report incidents, concerns and suggestions for improvement to the Children, Youth & Family Committee promptly (including suspected child abuse)
  • Wash your hands after.changing diapers or assisting a child in the washroom
  • If no children have arrived by 10:20 - you may leave the nursery and offer help in the Church School
  • NEVER leave the children unattended for any reason
  • Don't serve snacks unless the parent has provided them - we must be aware of allergies/preferences!

Requirements:

  • Must love children

  • Age 16 or older. If under age 18 must have completed a babysitter’s course.
  • Be aware of emergency procedures
  • Immediately contact a Warden/Rector with any concerns.

Curriculum:

  • Integrate a Bible story/lesson into your time together.

 Compensation and required hours:

  • This is a part-time position of 2 & 1/2 hours per Sunday
  • Hourly rate of pay is $25
