St. Cuthbert’s Anglican Church Bookkeeper

The Bookkeeper is responsible for the maintenance of parish’s financial records to ensure good day-to-day financial administration. The Parish of St. Cuthbert is part of the Diocese of New Westminster within the Anglican Church of Canada.

The candidate should have a minimum of five (5) years experience.

Core Responsibilities

1. Knowledge of SAGE
2. Record Keeping: Entering financial transactions, including income and expenses, into the parish’s ledger.
3. Account Reconciliation: Regularly compare bank statements, credit card statements, and other financial records to ensure the accuracy of company books.
4. Accounts Payable (A/P): Process and pay invoices from suppliers and vendors in a timely manner.
5. Accounts Receivable (A/R): Issue invoices to renters and follow up on outstanding payments to collect revenue.
6. Payroll: Calculate and process wages, including deductions and payroll remittance to CRA.
7. Financial Reporting: Prepare basic financial statements, such as balance sheets and profit/loss reports to Treasurer for presentation to Council.
8. Integrity & Confidentiality: Handle sensitive financial information with transparency and uphold St. Cuthbert’s policies.

Other essential functions

  • Responsible for monitoring/anticipating annual events/expenses such as mortgage renewal, mortgage interest and insurance due dates.
  • Drafting Long term renter’s contract, keeping in touch with them, and notifying them in advance should we need the space for church functions.
  • Handling adjustments of rental rates increase as per Policies after consultation with the Infrastructure, Information, Communication & Technology Committee for implementation.
  • Ensure financial records are maintained securely.
  • Ordering of offering envelopes and bank deposit books and bags.
  • Monthly meeting with Envelope Secretary to ensure both our data entries match each
  • Bimonthly staff meeting with the Rector

  • Answering phone calls
  • Receiving deliveries
  • Being available in the Church Office

The supervisor is the Rector. Liaison with the Parish Treasurer as required.

Standard office working conditions

Compensation Wage Rate: The wage rate for this position is $25.00 - $28.00 per hour for 10 hours per week.                 

Workday: Friday, 9 AM until 2 PM plus one other day between Tuesday and Thursday.

It is the policy of the Diocese of New Westminster that everyone who comes into contact with vulnerable persons be screened.  The goal is a safe environment in parishes, in diocesan ministries, in activities for children, seniors, the physically, emotionally, and /or spiritually vulnerable persons.  Submission of a current Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check, take “Safe Church” courses as required and “Dismantling Racism” training and Basic First Aid/CPR training are required.
